With over 20 years of experience as a professional photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing a wide range of events, from weddings and corporate functions to some truly memorable social gatherings. My passion lies in documenting moments that reflect the true essence of people and their stories. I focus on delivering engaging, authentic, and visually striking images that resonate long after the event has ended.
Freezing Time
Photography has had a gravitational pull on me since I was a young boy. It all started during a family trip to Washington. One afternoon my father stopped the car in front of a garage sale. He purchased a professional SLR camera and a bunch or gear, including lenses, flashes, a tripod, and filters. Growing up we always had modern point and shoot cameras, but this was different. This was a Canon and its weight made it feel significant in the hand. It was covered with dials, buttons, and knobs. It was glorious. At first the camera was quite overwhelming but after many, many, many rolls of film everything became second nature. Learning how to rapidly modify my settings made it possible for me to capture moments that typically last for only seconds.
Candid Photography
Candid photography is quite different than studio work, shooting portraits, or staging food and drinks. To capture a truly natural moment, the camera must ready regardless of the lighting conditions or the movement of my subject. In some cases I have less a few seconds to changes settings, position my camera, anticipate the right moment AND ensure the eyeball closest to me is perfectly focused.
Note: I delete 99.9999% of the photos if the correct eyeball is not in focus.
Why Candid Photography is Important
In my many years of capturing thousands of people I’ve noticed one key thing. A vast majority of people become a little (or very) uncomfortable when they know they are the subject in a photograph (myself included). A person’s facial expressions and body language becomes forced and contrived. The antithesis of nature. By observing people from a distance and descreteley, I capture people in their natural state. I freeze a moment in time he, she, or they look their best.
More About Me
When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll find me working as a product developer, designer, web guy, or exploring the city on my bike or by foot. I enjoy horror movies, science, with a little quantum physics sprinkled on top. I still love garage sales and I’ve been visited by aliens five times.
